Made to the same formula since 1795, this giant of the category is aged for four years in oak barrels to create a smooth, mellow taste with hints of spice.

Tasting Note
 
Nose: Quite sweet with gentle notes of vanilla and cut hay, a touch of fresh corn fields and a little cereal sweetness, like the bluegrass fields of Kentucky.
 
Palate: Good body with notes of toasty oak and all the requisite notes of vanilla and crème anglaise, a little spice and pepper with an acetone note.
 
Finish: Toasty oak and resin with a some sweetness.

 

Jim Beam Black Extra Aged Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey [1000ml]

The world's most famous name in Bourbon, Jim Beam, provide a even more intense and complex Bourbon experience with their Black Label Bourbon. Triple Aged for 6 years, this extra aging in barrel gives the Bourbon a fuller flavour that takes on some great winter spice notes such as cinnamon and nutmeg. Perfect for making a Mint Julep, mixing with Ginger Beer or served on its own over ice.

Tasting Note
 
Nose: Honeyed nose of well cooked toast spread with charred corn and tobacco with faint aromas of mashed ripe banana.
 
Palate: Spicy palate with vanilla oak, caramel, gingerbread and spicy mocca coffee.
 
Finish: Long grain rich finish with cracked black pepper and dry spicy oak.
 
Overall: (I was unable to try 8 year old and new 6 year old Blacks alongside each other but judging from my tasting notes I prefer this new younger model.)
