Famous Grouse Gold Reserve Blended Scotch Whisky 12 Year Old [1000ml]Famous Grouse
Both the grain and single malt whiskies in the 12 year Gold Reserve are 12-15 years in age. It contains 40% single malt with the core malts being Macallan and Tamdhu. The grain whiskies are coming from North British, which is owned, by the Edrington Group and the Diageo grain distilleries Cameronbridge and Port Dundas. These grain whiskies can be very different in style. As an example North British is quite an oily grain whisky because it uses corn, where the Diageo distilleries use wheat. The rich sweetness on the nose coming from sherry cask. On the palate, the whisky has great balance of sweetness, fruit, spice and a pronounced pepper ness on the finish. 40% ABV
Nose: Rich and malty leading to lime, toffee and raisin.
Palate: Cox apples and caramel leading to walnut and coffee cake.
Finish: Long and complex, it seems some of the more famous elements of this blend shine through here.
Overall: A blend from a classic producer featuring some top class malts.
